Remington Model 7600 stock alteration
I bought a new gun(named in title) last October to have a gun to carry while dogging and stillhunting. My intention is to either leave the iron sights on it or replace the rear sight with a receiver(peep) sight. I immediately found it very hard to get "down" on the sights due to the Monte Carlo stock.
I had heard/read that this has been issue with many people. I had heard of people changing out the butt stock with a stock from an 870(lw 20 ga model). These are available on the Remington US website for approx. $198. This would be upwards of $300 CDN by the time it got to my door.
I got a lead on a guy that builds kitchens and spoke to him about removing the Monte Carlo(bump) portion of the stock and refinishing it. He gladly agreed to do it. He didn't give me a price but said he would charge me "time and Materials".
I picked it up yesterday and could not believe the quality of the job. When he asked me if $40 would be ok I just about flipped. To say I was happy was an understatement.
Here is a pic of before(top stock in 1st pic).

Has too much time on their hands
That looks great! I like your choice of bush rifle too. My Dad used to have the carbine version in .30-06 and I wasn't happy when he sold it.

Really nice work - and good on you for coming up with a modification that retained the original wood.

This is a 5 year old post, looks like the original poster is still active but it has been a while.
