Default Government Extends Amnesty on 'assault-style' firearms until 2023

    Good news.

The federal Liberal government is extending its amnesty on “assault-style” firearms until October 2023.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced in May 2020 he was banning more than 1,500 models of firearms, including the AR-15.

He also announced owners of these guns would have a two-year amnesty period to come into compliance with the prohibition.

The Liberal government revealed on Wednesday that the order that was set to expire in April would be extended until October 2023.

Good to hear, because I have absolutely NO intention to turn in my .22LR rifle in until they pay me the promised compensation for it.
Im still pissed off about it being listed in the first place!

Yep, these guns are so dangerous to the public and so often used in crimes, they're letting us hold on to them, for a bit longer..... lol

This document goes into as much detail as we know so far as to how the 'collection' of guns will occur.

Have to laugh, an illegal, lethal gun "designed to kill as many people as possible in the shortest period of time" ...will be boxed up and shipped by Can-Post. Kid you not:

In conclusion, it appears that the gun buyback can be expected to take a largely digital form, and involve the following steps for gun owners:

First off, gun owners will be notified that guns they possess or may possess, are now prohibited. A deadline will likely be provided, before which time you will be expected to declare which Newly Prohibited Firearms you intend to surrender to the government, either by phone or online. After making these declarations, your surrendered firearms may be collected at a scheduled collection event (more likely to occur in more urban areas) or, as we’ve discussed, potentially by mail; likely via a pre-paid case or box shipped to you for the express purpose of surrendering firearms that are simply dropped off at a nearby Canada Post outlet.

Once your firearms have been Collected from the collecting authority, a cheque will be issued for the agreed-upon sum, or a dispute process may be initiated (potentially) by either party if the firearm or its condition is incongruous with the information provided on the surrender form. The firearm is destroyed.

I doubt many of the people in possession of these banned weapons regard further delays in compensation as "good news." For two years now they've been unable to use or sell what was once their own property as the government dawdles trying to figure out a process to pay them. The owners are now forced to provide the equivalent of free storage of government property.

Everyone should invoice the federal government for rent and storage fees, security, etc.

Be careful how you post the forum rules have been taken literally in the past and it might follow into the following.

    1. Any discussion and promotion of illegal actives or information that is deliberately misleading or any discussion of activities that are in violation of the Fish and Hunting regulations as set forth by the Ontario Ministry of Natural resources.
