You don't bother hunting Coyotes?

I have not really acquired the skill to hunt them and I think it would be pretty tough with so much thick bush, they are pretty smart buggers, when I think of the hundreds of hour's on various tree stands and I have had only one opportunity to knock one off.

I started off with a small stack ( 5 face cords ?) but my buddy who lets me dock my boat at his place in Long Point needed some so there went 2 fc's plus we cut and split from a mountain of Ash logs left behind from the logger who did the woods behind the house and that was good dry wood and carried us through until the end of January. Unfortunately he and another old guy that helps me came up lame and the weather got nasty so we purchased firewood from that very same logger to get us to this point in time. Only 60 bucks a face cord (or in my case my 5x10 trailer full) if we picked it up at his place (70 bucks delivered) and though mostly Ash there was Beech, Black Cherry, Oak and Maple mixed in. Still scratching my head as to why I bother doing all that work ? LoL ! I have to admit some pieces were a juicy 25 plus percent moisture content but the bulk was in the 15 to 20 percent range. Now if only we get some Spring weather it will be back to cutting and splitting !

at $60 a face cord I doubt I'd do the work either

A face cord in Ottawa starts at 100 for 1 face you pickup, the average is 150.00 and as high as 200.00 in the winter.

I myself sell seasoned hard wood cut split delivered 370 a bush cord or 185 a half bush cord and have no problems getting that price. If you can find it for 60 a face cord buy all you can that I would say is a steal. I myself wouldn't get our of bed to sell a face cord for 60 dollars.

Agreed at 60 bucks I would buy it all and sell it for 150.00 no problem at all.

I’m very jealous of those who have a bush lot full of dead ash or beech. I only burn in the garage on weekends so don’t go through much, but I scavenge what the township has cut in the ditches and get by

A few years back I saw a local listing on the Bulletin board at the grocery store..$50 /cord.. I pull off the tab and called. Went to check it out and it was cedar and birch. .....no thanks, got lots of that for FREE !!

Burning wood to heat the house almost gets to be a hobby - If I stopped it would feel like I lost something - I have a heat pump but seldom use it for heating the house - in the winter time I just move the thermostat enough to get the coils in it take the morning chill out of the house - I then crank up the wood stove and use that to heat the house the rest of the day - my heat pump is now 47 years old and still going strong - the only thing I had to do to it was change the fan blades because I saw cracks on them and added a new capacitor over all those years - at 88 years old I have to realize I could only continue doing this for so long -

Nothing compares to the radiant heat put out by a woodstove stuffed full of maple.
