A little maintenance goes a long way...clean and oil/grease reels as needed, hone the hooks a little, clean up the tackle boxes and tools, inspect and wipe down the rods...2-3 beer job and you’re G2G

Oil reels, yes
Sharpen hooks, no. Replace when needed

I fish mostly surf, the grease attracts sand so I use wax, the kind used for bicycle chains, more importantly rinse the reels after each use. Hooks I never re sharpen anymore as they just rust where the filing was done, replace as required. Leaders get replaced daily but the main line (braid) last for years, I just cut off 10m or so each spring.
