RPAL - how long to get one after the course

What a shame, and I'm sorry to hear. I'm sure most if not all gun shows will be a thing of the past unfortunately with the current rules being forced upon legal and law biding gun owners of this country.

Been several decades since I've been to a gun show, they had some on Saturdays, it is ridiculous, the only way to save them would be to rebrand them as fishing/hunting and camping shows but I don't know if there is enough draw to make it worth it.

OK, but some of the comments brought up two questions.

The Restricted course at this time seems to be a waste of money, I see some are upgrading what is required to go from a PAL to an RPAL in terms of courses and timeline?

Here is a scenario, If someone took the non restricted course this month and got their PAL (probably around winter by the sounds of it) and assuming they don't cap firearm ownership and let people get the PAL, in 3 or 4 years if a government with morals and a brain was in power and tossed the b.s. out would they just have to take the Restricted course or both again?

Also what about some old fart like me that took the course to get something to hunt Smilodons had the FAC etc. can they take the restricted part or do they have to take the whole course?

Many seem to be reading this thread so no speculation please, looking for those that have or know someone that did it.

mosquito-no expert,but this is what i learned last year.
If you go from blank to licencing, and thinking to get both-the right thing to do is to do both together.
For whatever reason-i learned , if one has PAL,and later wants to do RPAL ,it is a whole lot more difficult to eventually get the license.

If this is true-i do not know,but i guess ,likely.
Does it have any logic?No-but that is another subject.

Going from a PAL to a RPAL is just a matter of taking the course, and applying. The only snag is you are charged the full amount for the RPAL, regardless of how long you have had your PAL. The whole firearms program is backlogged, so it won’t be quick !!

Probably business as usual until it’s actually passed. I don’t think I would go through the expense right now …

I went l from having a FAC to the all in one RPAL/PAL to be honest I didn't want the RPAL but we didn't have a choice to just get the PAL. I'm glad I have my restricted permit now...

I'm still seeing RPAL courses being offered. Remember, this hasn't made it's way through parliament yet. I read that the earliest the handgun freeze could take effect would probably be October. I've also read that if the senate raises any questions, it could be delayed indefinitely. If you have any desire to get an RPAL, I would still do it, and hope the bill gets stalled in parliament for a while.

I took the course and applied for my RPAL this winter and am now wondering if that was money down the drain. Let’s hope our well paid Senators in the chamber of sober second thought do their jobs !
