^^^^^^ What he said. ^^^^^^ I would only add to have a topo map or even a simple directional map of the area you intend to hunt to use with your compass (notice I only mentioned compass. I have ZERO faith in any electronic device because of it's ability to not work when you need them the most.)

Problem with a map you first have to know where you are to figure a path out. Even in Simcoe county forest have had on occasion been turned around after crisscross various trails. Whipped out the gps and it has always brought me back to the Jeep. Always make sure have fresh batteries in the gps and a spares in the case.
