    Default Controlled Hunt Application Help

Hi everyone, I'm looking at applying for controlled hunt in 91A this year. This will be my first time applying as I normally hunt in Eastern Ontario where it's an open season and have no experience with controlled hunt regulations. I read through the regs but seem to be confused when I'm attempting to apply. There are three hunt codes for 91A, two being separate weeks of shotgun/muzzleloader and one being a muzzleloader only week. Are you not able to apply for all three weeks? When I try online it only allows me to select two choices...any help would greatly appreciated

Not sure for 91 A-but if it works the same as others i am familiar with-likely You can apply to two seasons-primary and secondary choice.
Luck may decide which one you will get drawn(if first or second or any one-not sure about success rate there).

Perhaps you can apply for 2 seasons as well? The system will tell you.

For the control hunt, they let you apply for a first choice and second choice. Then they do a draw and they (ministry) will let you know if your first choice or second choice was chosen.

Control hunt zones only allow you to hunt in only one of the choices, you will not get approved for more than one choice, its just the way control hunt works....

So the ministry gave 91A 3 hunt choices, you can only apply for 2 but will only be able to hunt one of them. (The one the ministry said you were successful) It just the way the control hunt works.

Also keep in mind that only hunters with a proper controlled hunt validation for the appropriate zone & hunt period can participate in any way.

Save your main deer tag too unless you are party hunting with other controlled hunt members with a valid tag...

Ask me how I know this... lol

A Controlled Hunt VALIDATION is NOT another deer tag to be clear. You still have just ONE tag, allowing you harvest ONE animal. Any "validation" for a particular area, or season, etc. just allows you to participate in THAT particular hunt, using the tag that you already have. For example, if I fill my tag in October, while hunting in WMU 75, then I cannot participate in the December Controlled Hunt in WMU 78, even if I have received validation for that Controlled Hunt. I simply do not have another available tag, so my hunt is done, unless I get a chance to participate in a party hunt elsewhere, with people who still have unfilled tags.

*** VERY TRUE. Many people ignore this fact and get caught. ***

The whole idea of a "Controlled Hunt" is to CONTROL the number of hunters afield within that certain period of time for that specific hunt. I've been participating in such hunts for 35 years or so. You need to pay close attention to the specific details if you are going to get involved with these hunts. The regulations are there for everyone to read - and read again. I still read them every year and never assume that I know everything. Surprises can suck, big time!!!

Hawkman-You are right on the money.

One thing to add though-if one hunter ( A ) party hunts with someone( B )bow, rifle or Controlled,if( A )harvests a deer-it is OK to have another party member( B )attach his tag to A's harvest.
Of course-If both meeting party hunting requirements, AND the other hunter ( B )is willing to do that.

Like-someone hunts "relaxed"- does not care much for the harvest by himself, happy to "only" get a "share"of a harvested animal.

Then the other guy( A )can carry on hunting on his own- with his own tag.....wherever and whenever legal.
