Human nature is to take the easy way out.

Its easy for JT and the band of misfits to target legal gun owners wasting huge amounts of our tax dollars once again rather than go after the root of the gun problem.

I will stop here before I get banned...

What do you see as the root of the gun problem?

What gun ban would that be? Not a single "assault rifle" or handgun has been removed from public hands. The owners of said weapons still have them. It's not a ban. It's a ban on any more.

The criminals are locked up on a daily basis by Police services across Canada. If after the criminals are released by the Court's then the law allowing the release has to be changed. We saw the Harper government take a run at 4 year mandatory sentences only to have that shot down by the Supreme Court. Now that is not to say a new or aspiring Prime Minister of Canada cannot make a change in the law a key part of their election platform, if the problem is as bad as you suggest it should be a winning position with the Canadian public.

But IMHO on a list of priorities much more comes ahead before this matter, inflation, especially cost of groceries and gas, climate change, house prices.

Its not rocket science. Smuggled unregistered guns are the root of the problem. I'll hand mine in if the smuggled gun owner hands theirs in...

Gilroy: The real problem is the Canadian Firearms Act. It destroyed the legal marketplace in firearms, and fostered the development of an illegal firearm market place, which organized crime moved into fill. The gun lobby warned that would happen, and it has. The Liberals went too far in their efforts to suppress firearms, and it has come around to bite them in the lower posterior. They are no longer in a position to block the access to firearms, which are being marketed by street vendors, who aren't going to be force to call the RCMP up to see that a PAL is up to date. They don't really care if their purchasers have a valid PAL or firearm licence.

The "gun problem" is really an "illegally armed criminal problem". This will not be fixed or resolved by targeting innocent and legal gun owners just as targeting all people of the Muslim faith will not stop terrorist acts by a small radical group.
Even the Secret Service knows they cannot 100% protect the POTUS against a radical who is happy to give up his life for what they believe is just or right no matter how twisted their thought patterns are.
There will always be crime and criminals, at all levels of society from the homeless guy taking food from a store without paying to the suit and tie bankrupting thousands of retired people by raping their life savings playing the market with their pension fund.
Their is no EASY BUTTON for real life, unless you want a Utopia where everyone is a vanilla robot.
