Personally, I like to hunt the bush for the morning sit as it doesn't matter how long you stay as deer tend to move all day especially in the bush, but at night I tend to hunt the fields and get them when they are coming out to feed. Just my opinion though

Hunting in the woods can be very exciting as well as challenging. It can also be very proactive whereas hunting field edges is reactive.
I prefer hunting the woods but have been known to sit along a field now and then. In fact I shot my first buck while sitting along a field edge 36 years ago. Since then, I think I’ve only shot 3 or 4 other deer in that setting. By far 95% of the deer I’ve shot were in the woods.

I’m just very grateful to hunt Deer wherever I can. lol
There’s different situations where fields have been good to me but nothing beats the tranquility of sitting in a tree stand in the bush.

I prefer the bush. At one time, years ago, I hunted the fields and I did get a few bucks that came out just at dark to sniff the doe's. The last 15 yrs or so, I'm in the bush. I think the big bucks find it a bit more secure, as they travel in search of a sweety?

We do the early controlled hunt in 90B and have stands in the woods and on the edge of fields and both pay off depending on wind or whether the corn is off the field as beans aren't a problem. I tell my boys to have their feet on the ground by Sunset when using the stands in the woods due to how it gets dark quickly back in there. Nothing worse then shooting an animal and not finding it and in all the years we've hunted our record is extremely good !
Good Luck & Good Hunting !

Fair enough! I've been with my group for 3 years now. With 3 guys we get at least 2 out of the 3 so not a bad trail record. We have another guy joining us this year so we have 4 tags. Well see if we can get 3 out of 4 at least this time haha . I hear you with the dark n the bush. When there's still 45 min left its already black in there. Thats when I usually make my way out to a field edge and freeze for the last hour. Worth it tho thats how I got my doe last year!
