It depends on how high up the tree they are,but,it looks like a big bruin leaving his mark. The marks look too deep and well defined for them to be antlers.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

Since it is on a deciduous tree-if size and height matches-it is moose winter feeding mark.
Bottom teeth raking up the bark.............If many more around,wintering yard.

I would say moose, see that quite often in the bush in the winter. Especially on soft maples, but also on other trees.
They say the only good wolf is a dead wolf, If that’s the case than I’ve reformed many a wolf.
