Hello everyone rifle season is among us… I just spent two weeks in 21A for moose. Unfortunately no bull but lots of cows and calves ! And the grouse !? I’ve shot more birds this year than any other year it’s incredible (100+) in 3 days … insane !!!
Im looking for some pointers, I have 5 days off and want to try for deer. My distance to travel is anywhere south of Sudbury. I’m familiar with highway 522 for camping reasons .. but anyone have any advice where I should go sit for 5 days?
Im not worried about other camps …
21A is the “pumpkin patch,” and we probably saw 5 other guys. F1E73781-C403-480D-B303-0530E0E2C701.jpg
thanks !

That's a lot of grouse. How many guys in your gang? What will you do with >100 grouse?

Good question ... what is the Grouse limit ...? How could you shoot 100+ Grouse legally by yourself ?

Then we wonder why there’s game limits. But to give him the benefit of the doubt he might have a really big camp with a lot of people and that was the total of birds.

I’m guessing he meant saw, but I could be wrong

Well I’ve been hunting one area since 2001 and it only took us 3 days to get 60 birds ( myself 3 sisters) usually takes the week if lucky. Then the following week went north for moose and we got 40 birds (3 hunters).
100 birds. I’d say 85 ruffed + 15
Spruce
Now what do we do with grouse, asking like that’s a lot.
1. We eat them, mostly in a stew or cut tenders for the kids with breading
2. Donate them to local farmers that allow us to hunt their property for other game.
3. We host 2 game dinners a year Christmas/Easter week.
The birds were taken in two separate WMU several hours from each other. Never seen them like that.
Daily limit (5) possession (15) per hunter.

That's amazing! Was it a mixed bag of Ruffed/Spruce? Or just one species?

Sounds like a great hunt. And good eating.
