Default Lures - designed to catch fish, or anglers?

    Hi,
I just bought a bunch of lures and as I went through the process, I began to wonder: are the lures designed to catch fish? Or are they designed to catch anglers?

I swear, there are so many types of lures, so many colors, and so many nuances between very similar lures, it was mind boggling.

I eventually settled on a small selection of spinners, spinner flies, and spoons. But even so - I feel an urge to get more lures! Sheesh!

    Cheers,
    Neil

I make and sell soft bait ,Fin,s and fish, reapers, and soft plastic worms.
The colours are designed to catch fishermen and woman.
I also do custom colours on request.
Red seem to be the most popular in my area, witch does not make sense, because 30 feet down in the water red colour looks black.
The red spectrum of light disappears at 15 ft

I spend countless hours in the boat and on the ice with a lure designer for a major brand globally. this discussion is hours long and so many different layers to it
at the end of the day the lure is typically designed to catch fish and a team of marketers work to catch the fishermen. trends play huge in this role and if you don't catch the trend swing right you simply loose out on that momentum

I have my own pet theory on this. I came to my conclusions thru fly fishing. In fly fishing presentation in many cases is far more important than fly selection. Confidence can effect presentation in a positive way. If you have confidence that a fly or lure will work you fish it with a better presentation, which results in a better catch rate. I believe a lure you pick yourself always out fishes the ones that your mother in law got you for your birthday, every time.

It's not the mountain ahead that wears you out, it's the grain of sand in yer shoe.

    Judge,
It is common for people to request custom baits?

    Dan,
So a mix of both, eh? That would explain the endless variations on a relatively smaller set of basic types, shapes, colors, and sizes.

    Cheers,
    Neil

    Swamp,
That does make sense. It's similar to target shooting, if you think about it. The person's skill and experience counts for a lot.
