    Default John Tory resigns

Wow can honestly say I didn't see that coming. She was 31 yrs old and he was 68 so was it a trap? Was he trying to keep it hidden when he was re-running for mayor?

The man is human after all... go figure ? I didn't really agree with his politics when he first became mayor but came to respect him and the way he conducted city business even if he was my boss and I a lowly civic worker. He was a not only a good mayor for Toronto but probably one of the best we've had there in a long time. Affairs happen all the time especially when you are working long hours and under pressure. I would not cast the first stone nor speak ill of him because as I stated the man is human after all.

That is so well said. Thank you.

I fail to understand why he needs to resign.

I agree with you but to be honest when I have seen him lately he looks pretty tired and beat up and he himself might just want to pack this job in and this is a good excuse.

I think he has done a very good job of being Mayor and will be sorry to see him go as I cannot see a better replacement.

His indiscretions were about to be revealed by the Toronto Star. Better to get ahead of the issue and resign.

Even still, why does it matter? Margret Trudeau had numerous affairs, which were well known about, Provincial Liberals had a coke addicted Finance Minister. Look at Justin Trudeau. So what you can take away is if your a Liberal then it's OK to steal, have affairs, Lie etc.
In all reality that is what has been insinuated over the past decades.

Tory tried to get out in front of the story before it broke in the media. I don't believe he should resign over it and I doubt he'd be fired over it,either, because no one else gets fired over an affair. It's just "life". Sometimes, stuff just happens.

Had he stayed it would have been an ongoing drama as the lefty councillors would demand a vote of confidence in the Mayor, an investigation by the municipal conflict commissioner and perhaps the human rights commission. The media would dig into the woman's past and her family. As it is her name is being tossed around on social media. It would have been a miserable fight with no guarantees. He'd have been hounded out of office eventually. Better to resign.
