Thread: Common Scams

We've been literally deluged with fake phone scams and spam e-mails about credit card entries for years. We had an Amazon account with an internet-use-only credit card (low limit/unlinked) left on their file for quick reference since 2014. Since then, that credit card has been hacked at least,6 times with amounts ranging from $200 to $4K. Each time, our M/C carrier reversed the charges and contacted Amazon about the fraudulent use. A week before last Christmas,a package arrived from DHL containing a child's action toy figure and a Garmin GPS watch......to the tune of just under $1K charged to the on-line CC. The package had my name and address and when I checked,a charge was present on the CC. The only problem was,we didn't order it. No record of the order could be found on hard drive searches. Where it came from is open to conjecture,but,M/C Security verified the IPS address as coming from another account within 200M of us. I have my suspicions, but, nothing concrete enough to nail down. In the meantime, our passwords have all been changed with no further incidents. Amazon refused a return basically saying "You have the merchandise,we have your money,so,bugger off". No problem,I cancelled our account and deleted all data. The strange thing is that ever since, the phone calls have stopped and there's been no further hacking attempts. Some things just make you go H-m-m-m-m.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

Nortan Security has been recent one for me. If your comfortable with it do you have there number. I could send it to someone who will jam there phone line, which will shut them down for a while .

Also sorry this happened to you, this happens way too much. These people unfortunately target seniors, and take advantage of the fact that they grew up trusting people. Don’t know how they sleep at night .

I keep getting nasty grams from the federal Gouvernement. They are asking me to pay back my CERB $. I think it's a scam. I told them take it from my tax return if you want it back... lol

BTW I have been paying my taxes and EI contributions for 41 years +. So I figure I have paid for my own CERB several times over and never once used it so they can go and pound salt!

LOL They are the last folks I would go and tell to go and pound salt. They have the power to go and pound your bank accounts if they want.

We have to pick and choose our battles. CRA authority is all-encompassing,more than any other quasi-judicial or judicial entity in Canada. It never pays to poke the bear. Any CRA bureaucrat can wipe someone out, financially, with the stroke of their pen.

Yes. I have good security and don't need Norton. Yet it seems impossible to get rid of it.

Sorry to hear what happened it happens far too often. They call me all the time say my credit card has charges, but I don't have a card that I'm aware of lol.

People are even dressing up as utility workers knocking on the front doors.

They will not be coming at you for no reason, remember any action could end up in Court. Unfortunately you end up facing a federal Prosecutor in front of a Federal judge from what I understand, they probably by this time already have your money and now your paying for a lawyer. Yes better to be a good boy. IMHO
