What is hanging on the neck of this deer?

Just looks like a bent sapling. I agree very odd. Did you ever get any other pics at another times of that same deer after?

On that spot i had very few pictures in general.

looks like a healthy deer though.

Sometimes the infra red flash can make things appear a different colour, looking at the shape and appearance that it has been on the animal for some time based on the impressions in the fur my guess is fencing wire.

That second picture makes it look like a sappling, but the first picture makes it look like its stuck into the neck. Strange for sure.
