Pretty hard to have only one canoe for everything. When i was 30 or 40 i didn’t mind portaging a 70lb Royalex or aluminum canoe on portages up to 5km. Those days are gone.

I hear you brother. Only thing i can portage 5k now is a handle of whiskey.

Set up for the river .....

You could add a side floaters you can increase stability (If you going with a dog ...)
and load capacity. I increased mine by 100-150 kg

Sounds like what you need is a used 15’ Scott Wilderness fibreglass canoe.
If your looking for new, Abitibi Co makes them now.
Great stable and easy canoe to paddle.

As far as design goes the Prospector in 16 or 17 feet is hard to beat.
