I didn't get out during the week so I planned to make the most of the weekend - rain and wind notwithstanding.

Spent 6 hours at my first location in the bush near a couple of old fields Saturday a.m. Nothing. Not a peep.

Spent 3 hours Sunday at my second location on a farm - saw a tom and two jakes but couldn't get them to come in, despite calling and having a set of decoys out. They never even seemed interest at all. Maybe they couldn't hear the calling over the wind/rain. They did wander as close as 150 yards - so they should have heard the calling or saw the decoys. Similar to Saturday a.m - very little calling going on.

I decided to move back to the first location for a couple of hours. I park the truck about 400 yards from the fields. I bumped a small flock on my way in and was able to get one of the curious jakes.

Well done and congratulations ! Is that a Remington 1100 you are using ? No doubt you button up and hide all that orange liner on your coat or do you wear a ghillie suit over it ? I pack a blaze orange toque in a pocket for my end of hunt walk out... better safe than sorry.

I zip up to cover up the orange and am usually in a ground blind. I have a mask that covers my head and neck as well.

The shotgun is a winchester 2400 (a cheaper version of the original winchester 1400). I bought it new in 1978 when I was 16. First gun I bought.

This is my farm/bush lot between Pembroke and Eganville. The rocky / mossy stuff is where they had partially cleared it and made stone piles but gave up and let it return to be bush - this part is mostly white pine now.
