Success at last
Went out again this morning and of course it was raining.Had seen a real nice Tom on Sunday but he was henned up and wouldn’t even give me a look.Started calling softly at 5:30but with the rain on the pop up blind you couldn’t hear anything but rain drops but finally at 5:50 he gobbled and it was like they do on tv he came in on a string and I shot him at 15 yards home at 7:10 would have done pictures but as someone else noted wet turkeys are ugly.Should have entered Lenny’s big Tom contest he had 1 1/2 inch spurs 9 1/2 inch beard and weighed 23 1/2 pounds .Come on boys let’s hear some stories it has been quiet.Good luck to all and stay safe

that is a nice bird and yes wet birds are ugly. I dressed to go this afternoon as the sun was out, but by the time I got ready the clouds were back and trying to rain yet again. Will try tomorrow morning

Congrats on the bird. Re: wet birds being ugly - yeah they are - and it's not like any amount of trying to brush them or fluff them up helps. I know - I tried with mine and it was still pretty pathetic looking.

You’re right there is nothing you can do to pretty them up .The only thing is shooting them in strut. The first turkey I shot was in strut walking towards me . Got excited and touched the BPS off and blew a gigantic hole in the tail fan. When I opened the fan I had 2 feathers on each end and a big gaping hole wh
ere the rest of the feathers should be.Priceless
