Spring Bear Hunt vs Human Conflict
Joe Northrup , Research Scientist Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Mark Ryckman, Manager of Policy Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters. Joe was the lead scientist on the recent study looking at the question of whether the Ontario spring black bear hunt reduced or increased human bear conflict. Joe discusses how the study was conducted and what its major findings were. Topics discussed include the spring bear pilot hunt, changes in bear populations, changes in human-bear conflict, baiting, age and sex of bears taken by hunters, possible explanations of the human-bear conflict phenomena, limitations of the study findings and whether the research will bring about changes to the spring bear hunt.

Haha. Agree. But i think perhaps we are disclosing our age when we refer to "Coles Notes." I distinctly remember using "Coles Notes" for Grade 12 English Literature tests in the early 80s - the world before the internet.

If there were no "Cole's Notes" for Math shortcut formulae,Gr.13 for me would have been a bust. The podcast is just too long to listen to in one sitting.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

Placing such complex discussion in Coles notes is pretty challenging.
This podcast is discussion of a study performed in Ontario during pilot season
Study Results:
Spring hunt season does not decrease human bear conflict.
In fact, according to study data it maybe actually increasing it - however this argument got torn apart by several fact:
- study dataset is quite small
- there are other factors that were not accounted in this study
- there is a huge correlation between bear food availability and human conflict
There is more so do your own research
I thought some on this forum were opponents of "clicky bait news" and like to get into full details and both sides of argument [emoji3]
