Oh I am well aware of the down side of them, but if Trudeau gets back in we might not have much choice as gas is expect to hit 3 bucks a litre in less than 5 years if he stays in power. So I am weighing my options 1 vehicle might possibly be electric and the other gas.

I'm interested in hybrid options mostly, it seems like the most practical when it comes down to being forced away from gasoline. If there was an alternative fuel such as hydrogen being pushed ahead as aggressively as EVs it would be far more attractive to people outside of the city centers. They can't even find parking spaces, imagine trying to find a public charging station if these things become more popular.

If Tredeau gets back - electric vehicles might be the least of our problems [emoji53][emoji53]

I had reserved one of the EV silverados - should have been delivered in Q1 2024, but GM has changed the price from 40k (USD) to 80k before delivering .
The weight of these trucks is a concern - 8900lbs vs 5000lbs for the ICE version. Would you every think of doing your every-day driving with 4000 lbs of extra weight in the back? That's what you are doing with the EV.

There is your answer, the loan payment on a new EV is fixed but the price of gas will go up over the period of the loan.

Was actually reading an article this morning about Britain and the damage to the rds from the ev cars. With the extra weight it's causing extra stress on the roads that needs 12 billion in pot hole repairs lol.
To bad about the price difference the first price would of been a good a deal.

Not meaning to hijack the thread but this is related to the switch to electric vehicles….
I was invited to participate in a HydroOne focus group back in the spring, it paid $100 for a few hours of my time so I did it. The focus of it was the rollout of a pamphlet that we will (or some may have already) received with our bill and every sentence was analyzed for reaction …the topic of the pamphlet was the imminent rollout of new SMART meters, which are coming very soon….these will be wifi-enabled to connect to your home internet and will also help you “manage” your home electricity use and your wifi-enabled thermostat, fridge etc….so get ready folks, the STATE is working its way into your household and it’s tying everything together, the push to electric vehicles and electric heat, and I have already seen a notice about Hydro One offering up rebates to allow them to control your thermostat in times when the grid is stressed. Yes - I know that HydroOne is not the government but it’s just about as close as you can get without actually being. The Independent Electricity Operator controls the grid at the direction of the province and the province sets policy.
Good time for an off grid cabin somewhere.

That is pretty invasive. But it would require an IP accessible thermostat, and I don't think many homes have that. We have a programmable one - but is all manual. No IP access.
