If it even looks like a switchblade in any aspect,they're prohibited weapons under the criminal code. It's always been that way,so,this is nothing new. I don't get what all the sudden angst is about.

seen them for sale on Amazon Canada a few times and someone will leave a review comment "These are illegal in Canada" and then it disappears. Seen them about 5 times. Now there are no lock blades or folding knives of any kind.

Canadian Tire does still have some, but for how long?

You are correct the law has been around for many years prohibiting centrifugal knives (and to be clear we not talking about switchblades or other mechanically assisted opening knives which are also prohibited). The sudden angst is because very recently and because of a precedent set in a recent court case the CBSA has changed their interpretation as to what constitutes a centrifugal knife. In the past and up to very recently unassisted folders were allowed to be imported into Canada and you could buy them just about anywhere. Now importation of essentially all folders (unassisted plain jane folders) has been stopped because CBSA considers them centrifugal knives. Any you see for sale are just old stock. No new ones coming in. This includes old faithfuls like the Buck 110 not being permitted into Canada anymore.

(b) Centrifugal knife (folding knife, butterfly knife, balisong knife) – A centrifugal knife is one that has a blade that opens automatically by centrifugal force when the blade is released from thehandle into the fully ejected and locked position with a simple and brisk outwardly flick of the wrist; and it includes knives that require some preliminary or simultaneous minimal manipulation of either a flipper, thumb stud or other non-edged parts of the blade. Centrifugal force may be defined as a force, arising from the body's inertia, which appears to act on a body moving in a circular path and is directed away from the centre around which the body is moving. That is,centrifugal force is established when the blade of the knife may be opened with a flick of the wrist

Does anyone know if this will include replaceable blades for havalon and outdoor edge folding knives? I've got a few of those havalon piranta knives around that Federal was including in an ammunition promotion. They are small knives but razor sharp and handy for turkey and small game.

Please note that those described still operate with minimal exertion either by "flicking" or with a thumb tab assisted by gravity,although,they fall into that "gray area" where something is deemed as only illegal "a little bit". They always were and will always continue to be classified as a "switch blade" to use a generic term. Go into almost any corner store and many flea market sales outlets and you can find them for sale to anyone. It's what has resulted in a general clamp down on importing those items.

Getting replacement blades should still be okay. Parts by themselves don't constitute a knife.

Based on the definition of centrifugal knife, the folding exacto-knives available at Lowes, Home Depot and Canadian tire are illegal to. That's what I like about these knives - you can open them with one hand....
