    Default Ontario Hunter Orange

The hunter orange garment must be solid and cannot contain open mesh or camouflage orange. A garment with 400 square inches of hunter orange that also includes retro-reflective silver or yellow stripes meets the requirement.

Based on the above from the regulations, these style vests would be legal to wear, so wondering what your thoughts are?

That's correct. The drawback to those vests is the retro reflective tape. I've seen hunters walking through bush with the tape flashing like mirror flashes from sunlight even before noticing the orange in a couple of instances. That seems very self-defeating to me.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

Is this a "new" update? I don't remember them being acceptable the last time I read that section. I have seen plenty of guys wearing them in the bush though.

ive thought about this too, i have some -40 degree overalls with sheep wool coated inside, got 2 sets from work at my last job. but the reflective tape is the only thing thats a no go for me. i wouldnt mind if it was just yellow and orange tho.

wouldnt see why it would be an issue regarding it being legal during gun hunt tho? if anything its even safer to wear than just orange i would think.

No game except bear can see colour, but all game would certainly see sunlight flashing off those reflective strips! Sure way to spook game to my way of thinking.

That is kind of the reason I'm intrigued by it. Not so much for during the hunt but pre-dawn or post-dusk it would make me more visible especially on crown land with other hunters around. Something to keep in the pack and throw it on when light visibility is too low overtop of the Hunter Orange jacket I already wear.

It's in the regulation summary, but not in the regulation itself, and yes it seems to be a very new addition. It was added in 2021.

In 2020's regulations summary doesn't include it.

And in 2021 regulations summary does include it.

But don't seen anything about it in the Regulations itself.

Maybe ok for doggers but not for blockers ? Are they cheaper to buy then Blaze Orange hunting gear ? I will stick with my wardrobe of BO. Still haven't found BO socks and undies but got everything else, Tee shirts, pants, flannel shirts, coveralls, vests, hoodies, parkas, toques and baseball caps, gloves and suspenders. Not a speck of reflective tape on any of them ! As a caution I wash any of those items in a scent free , no UV brightener laundry soap.
Good Luck & Good Hunting !

Reflective tape isn't a requirement so it wouldn't be something I'd use.
