    Default Ghost Pike Mount

Got my Abitibi pike mount back. Caught last April through the ice on a 28 inch St. Croix Mojo Ice ultralight rod, 6 lb test, no leader. 1/4 oz jig head tipped with a pinhead minnow. 38.5 inches and 16 lbs. Was hemming and hawing about getting a mount made but the unique lack of markings and the pale grey/pink/blue colour sealed the deal. Only pike i have ever seen like this:

Will be hung up at the cottage somewhere.

That’s very interesting. I’ve never seen that before. Makes me wonder how it came to look so different.

Nice mount I’ve never seen a pike like that. Almost could pass as a musky

I did some research today and apparently it is a genetic mutation that affects about 1 in 500 pike. Pike with the mutation are referred to as either silver or blue pike - not Ghost - that was just what i thought i would call it due to it being so pale.

The Ontario and world soft water record with the mutation is 48 inches. Couldn't find anything for a hard water record (so unofficially I'll just claim the hardwater record - haha) . Apparently though pike with the mutation over 10 lbs are exceedingly rare. Happy i got a mount made as apparently it is a fairly unique beast.
