Is This Legal?
*** Please feel free to move this thread to where it belongs; this probably isn't the best spot but I wasn't sure.***
When bowhunting for deer or turkeys, is it legal to have a shotgun along at the same time for squirrels and rabbits provided I only have shot size 1-3 or 7 1/2-10?

Good question, don't know the answer so until I did, I wouldn't have both shotgun and bow with me..... If someone doesn't chime in, you can always call MNR office and ask... Good luck this season

you can but the problem is one of them must always be incased. you cannot have both of them loaded, and 1 must always be in a case i believe.

I always carry 2 small game arrows in my quiver for if I come across grouse or rabbits on my walk in it out, it would be a lot lighter than a shotgun.

but carrying non broadheads while deer hunting could get you in trouble I bet. I have carried a shotgun for crows and rife for coyote but one is always cased. so rife first legal until I figure nothing coming then get shotgun out for crows and case the rife. even if legal to have bow and shotgun out I would not mess with my deer hunt just to shoot some small game.

Search the "Ask a CO" section. I'm sure this question has been asked and answered before. TC

Few different scenarios .....
Bows only season for Deer - No
Gun season for deer (CF Rifle, ML, SG and Bow) - Yes
Turkey season (either SG, ML or Bow are permitted during both seasons) - Yes

I'll throw this out there, if you only have the one case with you and you want to switch over to the other weapon when you take it out of the case to put the onther in, both weapons are out of the case even for only a few seconds.... Therfore breaking the law.... Hypothetically that is...

Ok, thanks for the fast answers!! Next question: I can take an air rifle under 500 fps with me during bows only since it is not considered a firearm, right?

It's considered a firearm under the FWCA.
As far as during a bow only season for deer, you cannot possess a firearm with you at all, even cased.
