Default Deer week: good luck and if you don't luck out, consider lamb.

for many of us deer week is just about to start for the first gun hunt. i love this time of the year, its like a holiday for rednecks.
    shoot straight and stay safe.
hopefully all of us can go home with not only memories but meat for the freezer.

Just a quick plug for you city slickers, if you happen to get skunked and you want some meat for the winter, try lamb or mutton. not trying to sell you my sheep (I'm all sold out for the year) but I'm often amazed at how closely our mutton is to white tail deer. Hair sheep, not wool sheep, are often your closest resemblance. either katahdin or dorper sheep.

just thought I'd put a plug in there in case you get skunked and dont have the heart to feed the wife and kids tag soup. feed them mutton or lamb and they wont know the difference :P

if you want it tasting more like venison, make sure its an older hair sheep. not a wool sheep. in tact rams like bucks, ewes and younger whethers are like does.
our group got 5 so my sheep are safe. haha

No tag soup yet, but please PM me if you can share a local source for whole lamb.

    Thanks, GS

haha our group got just under half a deer each to go around so my sheep are safe this season!
good thing, as this years ram is a big sweetheart and i dont want to kill him quite yet :P

sorry i wasn't trying to advertise for my farm, just to pump up awareness about an amazing protein source thats so close to our beloved venison.
my little farm is in huron county so if you're more than an hour or two away, im sure theres a closer farm that raises hair sheep
