Default Ice and salt in Cooler box

The Science of Salt and Ice: Does It Really Make Ice Last Longer?

There is a lot of debate surrounding the use of salt and ice in coolers. Some people swear by it, while others think that it's nothing more than an old wives' tale. So, what's the truth? Does salt really make ice last longer? In this post, I will take a look at the science behind salt and ice and try to explain my experience what and how its really works!

The science behind the salting the ice has to do with the way that salt increase the melting at first then lowers the freezing point of water slush , in that salty watery slush the sweet water ice melt slower because the watery slush temperature will be below the freezing point -5C or lower depend from the solution salt content .

One of the most important things to consider when using salt on ice is the type of cooler you're using. You try to use the cooler box with tick isolation 4-5 in tick , and no heat bridge around the lid . This can be simple as two plywood box inside each other and 4-5 in foam isolation between the plywood walls . Of course you can waterproof inside the box to be watertight ,to prevent the salty icy slush from escaping which has the most cooling energy , what lot of people drain from the Cooler box by mistake . In the box you have to pack tight from the bottom up . If is not up to the lid ice and the meat you have to use thermal blanket to containing the cold and prevent the circulation inside the box.

Keep in mind that is the best cooler box is going to be what you going to make with most foam isolation …
And make sure that always have 50-50% a ice - water content for the cooling to work .

If you make everything right your meat will arrive home slightly frozen, from week or two week long hunting trip ...

It’s not that people don’t appreciate good information, it’s likely that people don’t rely on ice as much as you do. You have to realize that not many people camp the same way you do.

Anyway, thank you for sharing the information.
