    Default Week 1 Gun Hunt

The weather compared to the last previous years was the pitts... Cold, wet, rain, drizzle, snow, with one day out of the 6 being nice.
Monday, 1 deer down and 2 misses.
Tuesday, 0 deer down, no misses and couldn't get anything going. Rain and drizzle all day.
Wednesday, 4 deer down, all before 11 am. After the rain on Tuesday the deer were moving good. The weather was perfect. We pulled the plug before noon.
Thursday, 0 deer down, approximately 2" of snow on the ground. Nothing moving at all.
Friday, 1 deer down, a nice buck, dressed out to 150 lbs. Plus 2 misses.
Saturday, 0 deer down, a couple of good chases but the deer were taken out the wrong way. We packed it in before noon.

All in all aside from the weather it was a good hunt, one deer shy of what was taken last year, but good times were had by all. Looking forward to heading back up to the camp on Tuesday hunting Wednesday through to Saturday. This winter we will spend some time up there to thin out the coyote population. Never seen numbers, i.e. tracks as we did this year...

That’s a very good hunt! How many guys in camp? Do you hunt with dogs?

Twelve guys in camp and we should have the same amount for next weeks hunt, however we only hunt Wednesday - Saturday the second week. And yes we do hunt over hounds. We had a total of 8 adult dogs and one ten mnonth old pup. We run 2 at a time but when we run the young dog he's paired with two of the older ones... The hounds make the hunt for us all...

The area we hunt the residents are pretty receptive to hounds should they leave our property. It does happen on occasion should they jump a wise old mature buck. They’ll run into the wind with their Nikes on and most of the time will take to water to avoid the dogs… I’ll try and get some photos up when I return from our camp after the second week of the hunt…
