make sure it is clean, cotton gauss wrap and tape. When taping run long strips the length of the tail. Tape the gauss wrap and place several wraps around the tape you ran the length of the tail. Check daily the healing process. See a vet if it gets infected. The healing takes time as a happy dog will bang it against walls, brush, whatever and break it open.. This is the reason some breeds have the tails docked at an early age. Good luck,

Sorry to read about the tail issues. If my Lab had that she would reinjure it daily. She has an aggressive tail wag when she sees me.. lol

Has too much time on their hands
More often than not my setter’s tail has a red tip after a couple hours of hunting. She looks even worse when her flanks get blood on them from from her slapping tail. Most times a little soap and water after we get home is all that’s needed, or the occasional hydrogen peroxide poured over the tip of the tail. We’ve never experienced it, but these things can get infected.

Hydrogen peroxide is no longer recommended for wound treatment, soap and water is fine.
If I deal with more than a scratch, I add a bit of Betadine (you have to ask the pharmacist, it's behind the counter) to water bottle 1-2L and pour it over, it's mild antiseptic and washes away any debris. Bandage if needed.
