    Default Final grouse hunt north

Made it out one last time for the season. Was a great season and couldn’t ask for anything more. Who would ever think we would be hunting grouse to the final day in northern Ontario. My young setter got plenty of contacts with wild birds this past season. From huns and Sharptail in western Canada to the grouse woods of northern Ontario. It was a pleasure to watch her progress over the season. Well over 100 wild bird contacts! Wild birds make a bird dog.

Looks like you had a memorable year. Wish I had a bit more wanderlust, however still good to be able to enjoy the sport within an hour or 2 of the GTA either natural and/or engineered.
What's the skid plate she's using? Stella could use one however she has a problem with chaffing under the arms.

Yes a a great season and sad it’s over.
I’m using the mendota skid plate. Dakota creek retrievers sells it as well as Canadian gun dog supplies. Dakota is very responsive when placing an order and almost always has stock and if she doesn’t she orders it and lead times are good. Plus she always updates you. Great to deal with.

I second the Mendota Skidplate. Its narrow enough to provide clearance between the forelegs for a setter's frame. Also very durable with solid buckles (no silly velcro).
