What can I but enumerate old themes,
First that sea-rider Oisin led by the nose
Through three enchanted islands, allegorical dreams,
Vain gaiety, vain battle, vain repose,
Themes of the embittered heart, or so it seems.

If you use a sliding knot then leave the tag ends long instead of trimming them short. They will flow through the line guides better.

The way to combat wind with an avon style float on slack water is to backshot it with a B.B. a foot above the float then sink your rod tip and bury your line a few cranks to get it out of the surface tow
