Controlled deer hunt almost here whats new !?
Hello everyone! Been a little busy this year lots to do lots of work.
After looking online at diffrent maps last year before the controlled hunt I put a pop up blind on the edge of a muskeg clearing that transitions into thick bush. I seen a couple big bucks that I couldn't get a shot on due to all the humps and bumps in the muskeg environment.
Early this year I decided this is the spot and I'm gunnna build something off the ground. I didn't want to do a tree stand, knowing my luck the tree I pick will get destroyed in a windstorm. So I decided to build a free standing blind 5x5. Got a bunch of cull pressure treated lumber from home depot for 90% off. Bought brand new straight 4x4x10s. And got a bunch of sheets of ¾ inch plywood from a work friend.
Put all the walls together in pieces at home pre cut most of the plywood and got everything up there. Leveled everything under the 4x4s built platforms for them so nothing shifts.
Also picked up a savage 220 this year and I absolutely love it. Anyone else have any new spots or stands this year? 20240831_182559.jpg20240831_192327.jpg20240901_163840.jpg20240922_135853.jpgIMG-20240928-WA0003.jpg

Now you just need to keep: porcupines from eating the plywood, raccoons from taking up residence and wasps from making a big nest in there.
Focus on integrity and eventually your name will be its own currency.

Impressive!!
As a metal fabricator, I keep saying I'm going to build myself something like that (metal structure) but then I remember I have four kids and a busy job . For now I'm happy just to get out with the muzzleloader for the week!
