Default Savage 10ML ii ready to go

My 2nd trip to the farm to confirm my 100yard zero. Had a pretty good crosswind and as expected the POI was a bit off due to wind drift on the .300gr XTP. Moved it back to 50 and right on the money. I feel confident I will make a quick ethical kill if an opportunity presents itself is the first week of controlled hunt.

To be honest the older I get the less I like shooting the muzzleloader I much prefer hunting and flinging arrows with my crossbow. But the muzzleloader is a much more efficient tool for the job especially the smokeless powder version and it is what it is.

I sighted in my Thompson Encore this weekend, in fact both them. One is mine, the other my sons. I use Powerbelt 250 gr bullets, 2 pellets of 777. Both reliably hit a 10 inch gong at 150 yards every shot. We are in a no rifle zone, and I used to use a shotgun with a rifled barrel. I found the ML to be more accurate, so that's all I use now. I do have a crossbow, but use it for archery only season. It is deadly accurate out to 40 yards, but that's as far as I would go with it.

I'll be getting my Savage out in the next few days and doing the same thing. I use 260 grain Extreme Elite sabots from PR Bullet.

I got a nitrofire a couple months ago, sighted in a burris fullfield E1 using 305gr. smackdown carnivore bullets and 100gr. firesticks, I can't wait to try in the bp late hunt. I've generally hunted the early rifle season and used a fully rifled SX3 during the late shotgun season. I sold an optima that was unfired years ago because it never got used. But I find I see more deer in the early shotgun season while there are still some crops on so I've switched to the early hunt the last couple years. Although that won't be the case this year as harvest is early.
