Default Trumps policies and the Great Lakes?

With trump cutting back so much funding from various federal ministries, what happens to Great Lakes management?
lampreys? Invasive carp? Other invasive species? Do the individual states mainly deal with this?

Is this going to affect funding and cooperation? What about other joint outdoor programs?

I'm just curious if there's been any news on this? Maybe there has and I haven't noticed.

    Federal Funding:

The Great Lakes Fishery Commission is funded by both the United States and Canadian federal governments.

For the Sea Lamprey Control Program, the United States contributes 69% and Canada contributes 31%.

For other commission activities (research, committees, communications), both countries contribute equally.

The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), a U.S. initiative, provides funding for various projects.

The Canada Water Agency also provides funding for Great Lakes protection and restoration projects.

Ontario invests approximately $14 million per year in actions to protect and restore the Great Lakes.

    Provincial, State, and Tribal Agencies:

Fisheries of the Great Lakes are managed by provincial, state, and tribal agencies, with support from the Canadian and U.S. federal governments.

These agencies work together through "lake committees" to develop strategic fishery management goals and set harvest levels.

    Trust Funds:

The Great Lakes Fishery Commission established trust funds in Canada and the United States to provide enhanced support for sea lamprey control and fishery research programs.

These funds enable interested parties to make tax-deductible contributions.

    Other Initiatives:

The Great Lakes Commission (GLC) works with partners to implement habitat restoration in Areas of Concern across the Great Lakes Basin.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) also plays a role in funding and supporting Great Lakes projects.

The Great Lakes Local Action Fund supports community-based projects that increase climate change resiliency and protect or improve water quality in the Great Lakes ecosystem.

    Canada-Ontario Agreement:

The Canada-Ontario Agreement on Great Lakes Water Quality and Ecosystem Health sets out specific actions that the federal and provincial governments will take, together with Great Lakes partners, to restore, protect and conserve the water quality and ecosystem health of the Great Lakes.

They are going after the waste ,fraud

They are not just cutting everything just the wasted dollars. Heck they even blew the Medicare out of proportion and are getting people all worried .

Shouldn't the government be held accountable for where the tax dollars are going. If you are an ngo and are inefficient they are cut . When the asked to see something they have done and they received taxpayers money and haven't done anything then it's simply a waste of taxpayers money.

I don't see why everyone is bent out of shape for essentially doing an audit on the government.

I don't see them cutting anything on the lakes. The lakes are not what this about .

I have recently heard that U.S. technical/science staff supporting the International Joint Commission have gone silent and are not communicating with their Canadian colleagues. This is troublesome considering the historically great, collaborative relationship and it could not have come at a worst time as we head into the spring thaw.

Hard to discern from the dramatic headlines, but the cuts aren't going to help the situation.

"The fishery experienced a similar problem during the coronavirus pandemic when the program was cut by about 75%, which led to a 300% increase in lampreys in some places.

"The impact is immediate, and people understand that."

15 people in a probationary period was going to change everything? Just part of the other 1300 federal workers that have been fired.
Just because they fired a few rookies doesn't mean they would be any less efficient than in past years. Probably hired under economy's booming look at all these federal jobs were giving out look how many jobs we created.

Imagine the fraud in our own government if we had someone to actually review the $ spent on the absolute BS! lol

A guy could see his taxes cut in half or more if they were actually accountable for spending!
