Ya the Thermacell comes in handy right from the start. Sad to say I've pulled the card and used it as a hand warmer on those early frosty mornings of opening week.

For spring turkey hunting as a newbie: practice your calls at home with an app, wear camo and stay still, move slow, keep the wind in your face, and be patient

I'd say stick with the basics: be patient, get familiar with the turkey calls, and try to learn from local hunters if you can.
