Default Ontario Place Pike in Feb?

Some of the ice has melted near Ontario place. Im thinking about casting some spoons in the open water for Pike while the season is still open.

    Anybody have any comments?

Does this sound crazy? I've seen huge pike there many times and have this overwhelming urge to go open water fishing.

Nope - that's not crazy. There are big ones caught there every year. Let us know how you make out!

Guys - there was a similar thread last year on the old board, and someone posted a video and blog from a guy that filmed himself fishing around Ontario Place and even downtown at the Spadina Street spit, and he was getting some GOOD ones. I think it was the Urban Fisherman or something like that... anyone else remember that thread?

I live at Harbourfront and can confirm that there are some good sized pike roaming these waters during the spring.

In terms of current conditions, the west end of Toronto harbour has opened up, but the east end is still jammed with ice. The shoreline along Toronto Island is also covered with ice.

I drove over to Ontario Place this afternoon to check things out. Both the east and west ends are clear of ice, but anything in between still has ice. I asked the security guy where someone could fish from shore and he said anyplace along the waterfront that isn't within Ontario Place property.

I used to catch them at the Leslie Street Spit in the 80's and 90's. See map here:
    http://www.friendsofthespit.ca/
In the 80's there was a "Hydro Run-Off" there, and huge rainbow trout were being caught too! Pike could be caught there in very shallow water with floating minnows. I was never brave enough to keep a pike for the table. I also caught monster carp at Centre Island in the 80's. Lots of various fish swim around Toronto's waterfront.
Both at East and west ends of the city you can catch Browns and Rainbows in Spring and Fall. Have fun and be safe!

Default Can't remember what it's like to cast a rod.

I didn' t think I would get this many respondses. It's been such a long time ( 3 months) since we've casted, I think we might have forgotten how to cast. Who am I kinding? We are fishing addicts!

I'm planing on going after working one day next week. If anyone wants to hook up and try some of the usual spots, I can meet you there. I'm thinking about 3.5 inch Red Devils and small muskie type baits ( granmas, 6 inch Believer, large grey Slug-oo).

I had my boat there in late Sept. and a 30 inch pike came right up to the Motor Guide and looked me in the eye as if to say " you idiot, you think I'm going bite that!"

    Thats fishing I guess.

I know of one guy who has already been out on his lunch hour down at Harbourfront area pulling in some respectable pike....people even put their float tubes in down there for about 30 mins at a time...I want this year to be the year I get down there for some big-city gators!
