Default Another outing on the Bonnechere

I got my old bones moving this afternoon and got out about 3PM and fished until 7 PM. I caught 7 largemouths in total. Three were about the same size as the one in the photo, 2 were a little smaller an 2 were only 4-5". Also caught several rock bass, sunfish and crappies.

A while ago I posted a photo of my largest crappie to date - this is the smallest.

Here's my "fishing platform" - my 10' jon boat. I've had it since 1974.

I was fooling around with a new lure (a crayfish "Bitsy Pond Minnow" from Basspro). Just jiggling it at the side of the boat teasing a pod of sunfish when a 2 lb smallmouth shot out from under the boat and smashed the lure. I was so startled I almost dropped the rod overboard! Then the bass jumped and threw the lure at me.

GLP - great pics. I love the old Mitchell reel. I have a couple sitting in the cabinet, maybe I'll take one out and take it with me on my trip to the French next week.

During the annual kids fishing derby on the Bonnechere at Douglas one kid caught a 4+ lb pike (see the Eganville Leader).

The "Barry's Bay This Week" paper has a photo of a kid playing baseball, the Pembroke "News" has a photo of a Powwow and the Renfrew "Mercury" has a picture of a boy at the Douglas fishing tournament. All front page pictures.

    Yeah, we country!

Bye the way, speaking of fishing the Bonnechere system - do you know about Wilber Lake?
