50 post minimum?
Why do I need 50 posts to be eligible to post in the classifieds? I think I have a pretty good guess, but at least asking here will get me one post closer.

1 word: spammers. They won't take the time to put 50 posts up before they starting flooding the site with ads for Viagra or hot dates or cheap sneakers.

That and the idea here is to promote an active community, not a place to sell an item and never come back. 50 Posts doesn't take all that long if you participate. Welcome to the forum!

Great, here's one more post to say thank you for explaining the need for 50 posts beforeposting in the classifieds. Now I know.

I think 50 is a little extreme though. While it prevents spammers, it may encourage a lot of single line, thoughtless response posts just to get one's numbers up enough to participate in the classified section. 25 posts may be a better number.

The single line, thoughtless posts will be seen, removed and the user's post to the For Sale section removed as well (and possible access to the sale forum). With over 42,000 discussions on the forum there is no reason a member cannot reach the 50 post requirement while participating in the forum.
The For Sale section is a member benefit and in place for members that are actively part of the community.
If people want to sign up for a forum to simply sell items they can use services designed for this - such as E-Bay, Kijiji or Craig's List.

CalTek,
When we roll over to the new system, everybody will be back to 0 posts right? Do we all have to reach 50 posts again before the for sale section is active?
Also, can it be made so that the for sale forum is only visible to those with +50 posts? Would that make sense, so that there is no more bellyaching about the arduous task of reaching 50 posts? Or would it make it too limited to people (particlarly newbies) to see the deals tat may be had?

Sorry if I missed it, but when are we going over to the new system?
