Some people on these things can't take a joke..
On the serious side 3" #5s Winchester supreme high velocity puts em down out to 40 yards with a full choke everytime from a BPS.
If you want to shoot further use the 3.5 inch.. I have both but I've shot so many turkeys I'm to the point if I can't get the bird inside 40 yards I'd likely let it walk.. Just not that hard up for a turkey.
Ps my gun and set ups never missed and I've let at least 1/2 dozen other hunters take birds with that gun with no issue.
The other thing I don't think people realise is the value of a low power scope on a turkey gun especially if you want to shoot 40 yards +. Big big difference putting the crosshairs just below the head at 3 power at 50 yards than a bead of a shotgun which basically blocks the head neck of a beard.

What I used worked just fine with my set up.
I know someone else that uses steel out to 40 yards.. He has never lost a bird, and that guys shot more turkeys than 99% of the folks on this forum. If you call and are sitting in the right spot and aim correctly inside 30 yards this is irrelevant.

The issue is that if you shoot steel shot through a turkey choke you risk damaging your barrel or your choke. Steel cannot compress as it goes through the choke like lead or other softer and heavier loads
Do yourself a favour, you only shoot 1 or 2 shells per year, buy the good stuff. I use both 3.5" hevi13 #6 and Winchester Supreme Elite 3.5" #6, both of these are far more deadly than lead. I have taken turkey out to 60yds stone dead, pattern your gun and I use a rangefinder as well. Hevi13 is the more expensive at $7.00/shell times 2 shells per season = $14.00 ammo cost per season pretty cheap.
