    a) why you opened the thread to read.......b) possesed you to reply.....c) possessed you to reply to such a small split hair that really had nothing to do with the price of tea in china.

I'd agree. We have some sort of cats - bobcat or lynx in eastern Ontario - but how many of those are showing up on trailcams either. I have one pic in 5 years. I don't know anyone else that has caught one on camera. Cats are far more cautions and secretive than coyotes or wolves.

In the US, they have radio collared western cougars as far east as Connecticut (btw - that's further east of Ontario).
They have also tracked collared western cougars in Wisconsin and Michigan to within a 100 kms of the Ontario border, so whether they are here or not, it is definitely a possibility.

It's a bit difficult for me to grasp someone declaring themselves 'god' and issuing a declaration that there are no cougars in Ontario and that discussion on the topic should cease.

I think most people ( including me ) firmly believe that there are cougars here and always have been. It's the picture of a mossy rock that is reason for the wisecracks.

Well, I believe in the possibility of cougars living in Northern Ontario. I also believe I saw a Dodo last night in my back yard.

One of these statements is true, lets debate on which one :P lol

There's a picture of a den on the Ontario Puma Foundations website too.

Can't see the cougar but I've no reason to dispute that it's, in-fact, a cougar's den.

To all points a, b, and c - I never claimed to have anything better to - that was all you. My possession was to liven up a thread that goes in circles every time it is started or alternatively go off on a tangent - all in good fun of course.

The wilderness is not a stadium where I satisfy my ambition to achieve, it is the cathedral where I worship.

But there have been sightings and hard evidence, taken and investigated by credible sources....
Nobody seems to know whether they are native or immigrants or escapees, but I believe they are here.
......and no doubt, if I'm ever lucky enough to see one, many of you folks will think I was on crack or something.

Here's the research paper from the MNR's study. I found it quite interesting.

That was easy enough......why do people still don't believe when its proven right here in black & white by the MNR that they DO exist. I guess for all you naysayers out there, the only time you are going to believe they exist is when you are climbing up your tree stand and one is starring down at you!

    Agreed.

And one of our problems in this discussion is that Ontario is a big place. There is good evidence of cougars in the northwest. Claims that there are cougars in the southwest are common, but this is where the trail cams are concentrated, and....

There are polar bears in Ontario, too.

No worries Species, Im not stressing over it, its just one of those things. A brain cramp, they happen, like typos, grammatical errors, etc. Its just odd (right word?) I find anyways what gets picked at sometimes. Something I can ignore so long as I get the gist of the post.....But turn around is fair play

This will rage likely for years to come and we may or may never get the proof some want to see.
I convinced they are here, have been for a long time. While I dont beleive in little green men that come down and abduct us, or live among us....When you consider the number the universes in the galaxy, its almost a mathematical improbablity that there isn't "life" somewhere. Ontario is huge...and sparesly populated except really S Ont.

Ontario has everything a Cougar could ever hope for, more so these days as urban sprawl and habitat loss in area's not too far away (MI, NE states), where they are known to exist dwindles, and we (man) are growing like weeds.. Given their nature they have to be looking for greener pastures and Ontario must look really green.

Whether they stay, move through, come and go..Who knows.

Im sure one day someone will get a picture and Im sure it will be hotly contested, and many still wont accept the possibility/probability until theres an attack/fatality and even then Im sure it might rage
