    Default First Pheasant

    Hello Everyone,

This is my second year hitting the properties involved in the pheasant release program in Norfolk County, and I finally got one. Didn't see any last year and this year on the same property, saw three. Went with a friend who had an untrained pointer that flushed it, he shot and missed. I was far from him and couldn't see him, but looked towards the area where I heard the shot, and saw the pheasant fly by and needless to say, I didn't miss!

Was that this morning? i.e., no snow down there?

I had the day off but, not knowing what the snow cover was like down there, decided not to use the gas finding out ... looks like I guessed wrong, because I was planning to hit the same spot you did....

    Congrats on the bird.

Great pics and a nice bird. Do you only get Pheasant in those woods, or were you able to take something else home last year (like rabbit, etc.)?

    Skarkner,

I only saw those three pheasants. This year and last year absolutley no rabbits were seen. We went out the week after I shot the pheasant, and there was a thick layer of snow. I only saw two deer tracks and either a coyote or fox tracks. I was actually shocked at not seeing any tracks of any animals. There were even very few birds seen. This forest is 100 acres, so not too small. So anyone have any ideas why it seemed so barren?

I can't say why it might have been so quite. Maybe they stock the pheasant there so often that all the other animals avoid it! That wouldn't be so bad.

I just found out about this Norfolk program at the end of this season and didn't make it out. Is it well run? Is it worth the drive from K-W?
