Ontario Public Hunting Area Locations

I can see how some people can feel threatened and want to protect their PUBLIC hunting spots from the hordes of internet trollers. Thing is its public info and for some being pointed in the general direction is needed. As listed there is no specific description of the hunting area just names and contact info. From here further investigation is on the hunter part. Kudos to the original poster as I see this for newbies much more helpful than the customary.... Go knock on doors comments from others.

It is a great reach out when you offered your help by listing public land info to other hunters on this website.
I really think it is a nice gesture from you.
I am not sure how to put this, because I do not want to come across as a negative person or as a jerk-please ,I am just trying to present a different opinion, opinion of the next guy.
The next guy who hunts almost entirely public land, for many years now. I am not sure if you do hunt public land, or mostly private land-if you do hunt private land, you can consider yourself lucky .You may-or you may not seen and experienced some of the "misuse" of those public areas by unreasonable ppl.

We can relay even to some threads from this very forum-public land with garbage, public land with permanent treestands etc.
Getting more ppl onto public land is likely not the best thing that can happen to the areas...thus let me somehow apply my experience to this situation. Do let a person work for his/her goal, so the person will appreciate achieving the goal , to its full extent. .If a"gift "is presented to an individual, the individual may lack the sense of accomplishment of working hard to get it, thus may lack the respect for the "gift".
The OOD just presented some of the public areas in Ontario,as they are in a "business"of doing so...so to say.
I am not saying not to help other hunters -I did it more then once myself. But ,the person was asking for help in a way....

What I am trying to say is-lets help the guy who needs help-wants guidance, and leave it to the person somehow to ask for it..

Otherwise we may just overcrowd those areas with semi interested, semi respectful ppl,and taking chances of loosing some of those areas due of "misuse".

Heres the thing, someone will eventually ask on here for help. However, they either get told head north to crown or pound on doors. Why not make a quick list you can just give them the link to instead. They're tax dollars are paying for it just as much as yours. If you don't like hunting with the public, don't hunt on public land.

Not to be rude, but, find your own hunting area by leg work and investigation, like we used to do, before we could surf the internet.

For the computer literate this is how the investigation side of things works, and its extremely efficient. The old-timey folks can call their local Conservation Authority or the OMNR for information about public hunting areas or crown land, their number can be found in a "phone book", whatever that is.

I was trying to be really nice and polite, and trying to make sure I may do not offend you with my post. Mentioned it 3 times,politely highlighting that i am just like any other forum member here living with my right to express my opinion
Then comes the burst of friendliness, politeness and camaradierie- from you: If you don't like hunting with the public, don't hunt on public land.

Then you go down on Jim-and all the older guys ,who by the way were all respectful in this thread nice ,and reasonably polite.

Let's not get too worked up gbk, I appreciated your respectful tone but I don't think x_xeon_x was being rude either, he was pointing out to jim that huntable public lands are public information that everyone has access to, whether you use the internet or older forms of communication technology.

I'm pretty sure the computer literate already know about the above mentioned areas, I think the point is some are so lazy they would not even go that far. They would just do nothing unless someone else does the computer "hand" work for them. I am sure we have all experienced this even those of us who hunt private land have taken someone out to a "spot" only to find out that person went back after and asked permission there are lazy people everywhere. There are thousands of members on this site, yet only a few post, I am sure there are many that just sit back waiting for easy info to come to them. I certainly have no problem sharing my site info with friends but no offence to anyone I do not post it here.

To be honest most public places are horrible to hunt regarding the volume of people using it ,hikers ,horse riders etc , Some days I have to drive to three or four, even in different townships just to have my peace and quiet and not have my hunt ruined in the above fashion .

well yes I do come to this site find out about gear,helpful hunting tips,safety rules. but again I agree with you on lazy people . but i like the Fact that x xeon x is trying to help out ... being from out East i have little to No hunting Experience here and have little info on where is legal to hunt with out Trespassing accidently . But im not saying for everyone to Give me the Hunting Spots that they enjoy ...that should be me finding a spot on my own. he is just posting Public land no harm done unless you want to make a big deal out of it
