Doggie Headlights
While at a local flea-market this evening I noticed an interesting product so I grabbed it, for $5 I couldn't go wrong - it's got me wondering however, why? And is there really any use for it?
It's a collar for the dog that has 8 smaller LED around the collar, then two ultrabright LED's that hang below the dog's head and light up a path in front of her. It's actually, REALLY bright.
Are these things just gimics, or is there a real use for them? My first thought was - great for walking the dog at night, I might pick up a few more but if there is a real use for them - I might grab more than that

I believe that is their purpose.

They are great for airing the dogs at night after a trial. Black dogs are real hard to see in the dark.

Has too much time on their hands
They have been out for at least ten years. Many long distance mushers would use them on there dogs on the trail at night for crossing roads at night etc. Also good when the team is coming into a check point at night during a race and can be seen far off into the distance. Yukon Quest and Iditarod mushers were using them along with the musher wearing his/her headlamp.

Just for s and giggles, here's a video of her wearing one - https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v...28040827387101 she seems to have fun wearing it actually, jumps and plays. I bought the rest the market had, only 6 of them - and got the rest for $20. I don't know what I'll use the for, even if just when I walk her at night or we go for a bike ride in the summer.
I left the one she was wearing last night, turned on - just to see what the battery life is like, I'm at work right now but my wife reports it's still on and just as bright as it was last evening.
I wonder about putting one of these on her during deer season, when she comes back to the camp after dark - helps see her when she's crossing roads, etc.
