Years and years ago, I plinked with both recurve and compound bows. Now I'm a 53 year old with a wonky shoulder and I have decided to buy a used 50lb. recurve package and take up traditional bowhunting. I took up deer hunting two years ago (0 for 2 in one rifle season and one shotgun season) and want to be able to spend more time hunting whitetails than gun season allows. I know the benefits provided by compound bows and crossbows for someone with aches and pains, but they don't turn my crank like a recurve does. Wish me luck, because I'm gonna need it, lol.

Thanks. I am working on rebuilding the strength in my right shoulder after a recurring strain injury. I am doing prescribed exercises and actually plan to use the bow as part of my therapy. A few draws using proper form, put it away, a few more, etc. I get you on the crossbow, but I like the old ways and minimal gear and fuss so I'll give the recurve a spin first.

Those were taken by the seller and posted on the internet. I actually won't have the bow in hand until later this week. Thanks for the "good luck".

Hope things work out ok for ya smallgamer. Like yourself I have a couple of shoulders that just don't work so well from time to time but would like to pick up a compound bow. Just don't know if putting out the money and not being able to use it properly or at all. I kinda think that slowly working my way into it and not overworking the shoulders right off the start. Going to try stretching and some proper exercise routine to try and strengthen the shoulders.

Nice looking bow in the pic's. Good luck with it and hope to see some successful hunting pic's this season.

Thanks outback. Yeah, I know about wanting to be cautious with the amount you want to invest before you are sure about it. The package I bought was very reasonable so should I find it not to my liking I will either sell it, get lighter limbs perhaps, or leave it on the shelf as a decoration lol. If it works out well, in a year or two I might think about upgrading quality, but the whole deal is one step at a time.

There might be an archery range in your area that will allow you to rent a bow and use their lanes, to see if the weight you wish to use is acceptable to your shoulders. I had a 50lb. recurve long ago and I am sure the weight is fine, once I work the kinks out. If I'm wrong though I'll attack archery from another direction.
