I've been told it's not worth the time and effort but not sure if that was coming from anyone who actually tried it to know

There is no cost savings for our group. Between going out west for 3-4 weeks and springs snows plus our traditional 1-2 days a week in Ontario we purchase Federals from Lawry's in Caledonia. Personally I will go through 7-8 flats this year.

Can you buy steel shot? I have only ever seen lead and still have a 25lbs left.

I looked into it as well, seems very expensive, the wads are different and the setup is costly. If you want to shoot 3 1/2in then it is even worse.

Reloading non-tox lead replacement would be something though, nice and soft, allowing me to hunt waterfowl and doves with the old 16ga double .

I wonder if the regs would allow copper BB's from BB gun? I have an air machine gun like the one at the fair, shoots about 2000 per minute, great fun but $16.00 a fill up...lol.

Before steel loads improved it was worth it to get 1500+ FPS shells but now w/ shell tech improving its really not worth it. I have a buddy that does it just because - but he acknowledges its a hobby not for cost saving etc But 15 yrs ago he had shells that were not commercially available

You dont save anything reloading steel.
Works out to roughly the same cost as buying a case from factory.
