Best distance for zeroing in rifled slug gun

Depends on capability of gun, sights, you, and where and how you hunt. I am currently using a savage 220 too sighted in at 100 as well, Burris ballistic reticle scope allows easy progression in range out to 200 which I have practiced at as we'll. Only one deer with it so far and that was at 40 yards. Wouldn't even consider shooting my 870 past 100 especially with open sights.

Do you guys initially sight in with some of the cheaper Hybrid slugs (Rackmasters for example) that are supposedly suitable for use in rifled barrels, then switch over to the more premium sabots once your getting half decent groups?

Not worth the dollar savings. Sight in with what you plan on hunting. You should be quickly on paper at 25 yards and work your way from there.

First try some brands of ammo and see what groups better in your gun. When you find a round with consistency, then zero it in. Try 25 yds as impact has said. Just to see where you are at. Then you will be set.

I have used rifled slugs in rifled barrel to get the gun on paper but you could just move up to 20 yards or so to get it on paper with premium ammo. I line up my guns at 70 yards because thats what my set up is, But keep it 2.5" high at 50 yards and should be zeroed at 150 yards or so.

if possible move back to the 150 yard range and test your results

Depends. Where i plan to hunt 100 yards is the minimum as I plan to hunt field edges. 2 inches high at 50 for most rifled slug guns is perfect for most.
