Rob, yes the portage from ragged to big P is 600m uphill, we always get on the water first light, and it is roughly 5 hours to Bonnechere for us, set up camp and an afternoon fish. even taking it easy and you should easily be on Pork and set up. If it ends up as your destination get back to me and will let you know about the Lunker spots..... and the nice thing , pretty quiet as well....
beautiful rock face at the south end of Big Pork, good spot to get ice to keep food and fish cold......
had watched your video on the AA site .........

Well, this year's spring trip is on hold. Had planned on going this Thursday for 4 days. Ice *might* be out south of Hwy 60 by then, but the Park is still holding on to a May 9th date to start issuing back country permits. The bigger issue is that the kid's schedules are getting loaded such that even a 2-3 day weekend is becoming a challenge. I think the boys and I might sneak up to the cottage Friday night and then come home through Algonquin on Sunday to see if we can at least get a day of fishing in.

RobW, lots of other folks in the same """"Boat"""" there is talk they are doing a fly over this Thursday and you could see some of the south of 60 lakes get permits before the 9th.
I'd give them a call on the Friday and hope for the best. we are actually hitting a lake south of the Park this year, still be in a ""PP"" but not Algonquin for the first time in a LONG TIME.

I might make it up for a canoe trip next weekend, but I'll be missing 2 of the kids for exams and other commitments. If we make it, it will be my youngest and a friend with his boys. Still a good time but my oldest guy will really be suffering as he stays home to study.

We ended up at Silent Lake PP this year, first time not in the AP since 1981. Was the honor system at the gate and we where the only canoe on the lake, did pretty good as well, or at least we think so.....probably back next spring as well. water was pretty cold at 47 degrees early Thursday morning , we did manage to find some areas the second day that had warmed up 54 degrees Friday and got into a bug hatch , which produced some fish.....Same spot had warmed up to 56 by Saturday.
