You really don't but glass bass boats are high perfomance boats designed for the tournament angler. In any given tournament you may have multiple spots which is important to get to as quick as possible, also the ability to make long runs away from the crowds. When there is ten's of thousands of dollars as stake everyone is looking for an edge. Plus who does not like going over 70mph

If the boats rated for why underpower it? IMO always max out HP rating on boat or otherwise you may be dissapointed with the performance.

Here's my rig before the re-finishing.
An 88 Bayliner BassTrophy with a 125 Force. Although the Force is considered crap, I've had great luck with it but am still working on a deal for a newer 150 Merc.
Although not the most desireable being a Bayliner, she's been a great rig for me and slowly coming along with upgrades.
Cheers

Here's my beauty!!
10ft tin tippy with a 3 hp Evinrude Lightwin from the early 60's. Sweet little trolling boat for specs in those hard to get to lakes.
Not so good in rough water (anything over 6" waves haha)
