Rehoming a 9 year old dog isn't that hard on them. I believe that dogs don't experience the passage of time the same way we do. They live in the now, they don't pine for the good old days. Dogs remember people and places but they don't think "It's been 2 months since I have been here". Society today treats dogs like furry little people and imposes all kinds of human emotions on dogs that they don't have. If you take this dog home and treat it like a dog and not a furry little person it will make the transition within a month. My first dogs were rehomed trial dogs at 6 and 8 years old. These dogs weren't crying in their pillow every night because dogs don't dwell on the past, the transition was very quick and went very well.


This operation did the right thing in trying to rehome this dog once she was too old to perform her duties. It is far better to give this dog a chance at a new life or take it back behind the barn than to leave in in a kennel for retirement and have it's brain fried due to lack of mental stimulation.

Good points Jakezilla - especially if the dog went from a place where he wasn't being hunted that much to one where he was the only dog and the star hunter.

I emailed the adoption place on their policy on placing dogs in Hunting homes and they are fine with a dog being placed in one.

Asked my wife.. She said I can find a new place to live if I do.
So.. Anyone know of any apartments?
