I was taught to always approach a shot animal from the spine side and touch it's eye with a stick or rifle muzzle. If it's still alive,no creature can resist a flinch. Give it another shot, just in case.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

T21. Me too. I was always taught that animals don't die with eyes closed. If they are closed its a good chance it's still alive.

We had a similar situation happen on our 2012 deer hunt, We were pushing the bush to the blockers when a bear came up behind one of the guys, He put a slug in it and it went down. When we got to him some 1/2 hr later we were standing around talking by the bear when he started to get up almost 45 minutes after he was shot. Luckily he was not to mobile and promptly had a .308 round to finish him off.

    Lesson learned there

Sounds like an episode of Walking Dead. Maybe Hornady Zombie Max bullets are the answer?

They try to bite and chew out the hot lead that just stung them.

I have heard of them being knocked out and coming too when being dragged.

Maybe concust from the blast? Probably knocked out, and woke back up while on the post. Maybe the blood running to it's head woke it back up? Never heard of this before, awesome!

    Here's one for ya!

My younger brother was visiting at a cottage up by Minden about 4yrs ago. This was in August. Anyway he took his daughter out for and ice cream and when he rounded a bend in the highway there was a car pulled over and a 250lb bear dead right in the middle of the road. He figured _ FREE MEAT _ He and the other guy dragged the bear from the middle of the road to the shoulder. Then he called me asking what to do. They were waiting for another car to come by and possibly help them get the bear into his truck. While we were talking on the phone the bear stood up, shook his head, looked at them, crossed the ditch and disappeared into the bush!

I wish I was there to see that one!

Ok... This is a story I was told at the hunting camp near Carlton place. The boys were heading to a bar downtown Carlton place.. And the car in front hit a buck. They got out and threw it in the back of the truck and off they went to the bar... After a few beers there comes a guy into the bar screaming about this deer in the parking lot running on the hoods of cars... The guys didn't say much and casually finished there beers and left.... The deer nowhere to be found but lots of damage to the cars!... Mums the word!.. Lol
