    Default Rabbit - Brampton Area

Hey everyone! New hunter looking for a spot near Brampton to pattern my shotgun and do some rabbit hunting. In our hunters education course we were told about Luther Marsh but I don't know anything about the area. Would this be a good place to start?

    Thanks in advance.

Make sure you got some good snowshoes if you head to the marsh. But as long as you are equipped to deal with waist deep snow it would be a fine place to go. You should check with the GRCA though as they require you to have a permit to use the Luther Marsh CA.

Hi 4n2to I would suggest that you don't pattern your gun on public hunting ground like Luther Marsh. Im sure it wouldn't hurt know one if you did take a couple of shots but keep in mind others may be hunting depending on season and for safety and respecting other people hunting, using the grounds shooting over and over to pattern the gun wouldn't be a good idea. As for rabbits you will find snowshoe hare there and now is a good time to explore because you can see there tracks and get an idea where they like to feed and hang out. Good luck

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. I guess that I'll have to find another place to pattern. The range I belong to operates on a buddy system. Can you guess how many people are willing to buddy while I pattern? Basically useless...

P.S. I hope the turkey's good in your area Tom. I've been granted access to 47 acres come spring in Wellington County (near 24 and 22).

Try silverdale if you have no one to buddy with at your club.

We hit Luther marsh today for our first hunt ever. Clearly I need new binding for my snowshoes. We saw some fresh bunny and yote (we think) tracks but as far as wildlife all we saw were lots of crows and a gobbler sitting on the highway on our way home.

Even with no sightings it was a great sunny day trek in the woods ... until my buddy lost his snowshoe and ended up waist deep in snow and a boot full of water (lesson learned - always have dry socks and shoes in the car).

It's well worth the day trip from Brampton just to check it out. It gave us a much better understanding about how little we know and how to better prepare for next time. With the distance from Brampton it's a very forgiving trip even if you did everything wrong.

Call ahead and talk to the CO. He was very cool, gave us a map of the area and helped us with understanding the terrain. Also good idea for him to know you're there. Snowshoes are a must.

As for Silverdale I think shot is only permitted on the trap and action (requires membership) ranges. I'd call ahead.

if you are heading out to Luther marsh and looking for a number two PM me, I'd be into checking it again before the 28th.

    good luck
